Usually when you hear the word “Surgery” you will think about hospitalizations, general anesthesia and extended time to spend for recovery. Then you would be surprised what procedures are considered as an Oral Surgery.
Here are the following conditions that may require Oral Surgery:
Example of this condition is the development of your Wisdom Tooth or otherwise known as the third molar. There are times that it will grow from the gum line and the jaw is large enough to allow room for it. However, most of the time these third molars fail to grow properly aligned with the gum line or the jaw is not large enough which results to swelling, pain, and infection of the gum tissue surrounding the wisdom tooth. The dentist would recommend that the impacted wisdom tooth be surgically removed.
The Implants would act as Tooth root substitutes that would be surgically anchored in the jaw bone to support the artificial teeth to which they are attached. To become a candidate for this procedure you should have adequate bone level density, you must not be prone to infection, and lastly, you must be willing to practice good oral hygiene.
Unequal Jaw Growth
While Orthodontic procedures could correct other problems, there are still some conditions that would require oral surgery to move the jaw to a new position to achieve its balance and functionality.
For those first-time Denture wearers, there is a procedure to be done that would require Oral Surgery to correct any irregularities of the jaws so that to ensure proper fit of the dentures. We cannot avoid bone deterioration which results in dentures that would no longer fit properly, that is where Oral Surgery comes in with the procedure of Bone Grafting.
This condition is usually the common cause of a headache and facial pains. Most patients with this disorder can be treated with oral medications and physical therapy. However, the dentist might perform joint surgery for the advanced cases depending on the diagnosis if there is a specific joint problem.
Oral Surgery is used to repair fractured jaws and broken facial bones.
The Oral Surgeon would first take a sample of the abnormal tissue growth and have it examined if it could be managed medically or surgically.
Oral surgeons had been working with Healthcare specialists over the years to fix these problems through a series of treatments and surgical procedures.
Pain and swelling in certain areas of the face, neck, and jaws may indicate an infection. An oral surgeon can assist to diagnose and treat this kind of condition.
If the machines would not work in treating this condition, then Oral Surgery can be tried. The procedure involves the removal of soft tissues on the oropharynx. There is also a newer treatment procedure called Laser surgery.
